Negative Supercharging Cooling System Specs

Negative Supercharging Cooling System keeps the water temperature below 50°C (122°F) with hot air induction by using a special coolant flow restrictor and a unique combination of conventional cooling system parts that may already be fitted to the vehicle

Negative Supercharging Cooling System comprises of...
  1. Coolant Flow Restrictor
  2. 3 Row Cellular Tubular Radiator
  3. NON-Thermal Fan Clutch
  4. Clutch Fan
  5. Radiator Fan Shroud
  6. NON-Glycol Coolant Inhibitor ABOVE freezing -or- Glycol Anti-Freeze Coolant BELOW freezing only
  7. Tap or Distilled Water

How Negative Supercharging Cooling System Works

In 2003 we invested a great deal of time and money to develop a low cost cooling system for the Negative Supercharging Kits and Impulse Crate Engines that keeps the engine cool with hot air induction

Instead of keeping the specs of this new cooling system a secret so you would need to buy it from us, we have revealed the specs for FREE for the following reasons.
  • To show owners of Negative Supercharging Kits and Impulse Crate Engines the correct cooling system parts that must be used with Negative Pressure Supercharging and hot air induction
  • Most of the parts of this new cooling system may already be fitted to the vehicle or can be sourced from local speed shops and radiator specialists
  • If the vehicle is fitted with most of the parts of this new cooling system, it only requires using our special coolant flow restrictor, the correct coolant and removing the thermostat to reduce the water temperature to 50°C (122°F)
Therefore, if you use this new cooling system please acknowledge it as the Negative Supercharging Cooling System -or- Impulse NPS Cooling System.

Negative Supercharging Cooling System

1A) Impulse NPS Coolant Flow Restrictor* -or-
1B) Impulse NPS Water Neck*
  • Circulates the water through the cooling system at a low flow rate of 23 L/min (5 gpm) from idle to peak rpm to allow the radiator more time to cool the water
  • Impulse NPS coolant flow restrictor MUST be inserted into the top radiator hose and secured with the hose clamp supplied
  • Supplied with the Negative Supercharging Kits and Impulse Crate Engines
2) 3 Row Cellular Tubular Radiator
  • Single Flow (has NO baffle plates in tank)
  • Louvered Fins
  • Tubes Inline
  • 1/2" - 5/8" Tubes
  • 10mm Tube Pitch
  • 16 - 18 FPI (Fins Per square Inch)
  • Or use a Radiator with greater cooling capacity
3) NON-Thermal Fan Clutch*
  • Fan is always engaged and increases in speed from idle to a maximum of 1800 rpm in proportion to engine speed regardless of how much engine rpm increases
  • Has NO temperature spring on front of the clutch housing
4) Clutch Fan
  • Use 18-22" 6-7 blade Clutch Fan with NON-Thermal Fan Clutch (recommended) -or-
  • Use 18-22" 6-7 blade Mechanical Fan that bolts directly onto the water pump
5) Radiator Fan Shroud
  • DO NOT leave out the fan shroud, it reduces the water temperature by 15-20°C (25-35°F)
  • Must fit the radiator and clear the fan
6A) NON-Glycol Coolant Inhibitor (Use ABOVE freezing only) -or-
  • Use Penrite racing coolant inhibitor only (contains NO Glycol) with outside air temperatures between -3 ~ 60°C (27 ~ 140°F)
  • DO NOT use NON-Glycol coolant inhibitor below -3°C (27°F)
6B) Glycol Anti-Freeze Coolant (Use BELOW freezing only)
  • Use ethylene Glycol anti-freeze coolant only with outside air temperatures between -31 ~ 8°C (-24 ~ 46°F)
  • DO NOT use Glycol anti-freeze coolant above 8°C (46°F)
7) Water
  • Use tap or distilled water only
* Parts available from Impulse Engine Technology ONLY

Optional parts that improve the Negative Supercharging Cooling System

Water Pump with spiral impeller
  • Reduces the water temperature a further 10-15°C (18-27°F)
  • MUST be used with Glycol anti-freeze coolant or if outside air temperature exceeds 28°C (83°F)
Tefba Coolant Filter*
  • Allows radiator to operate at maximum cooling efficiency by preventing rust scales and dirt in cooling system from blocking the tubes of radiator. NOTE: Use ONLY the Tefba coolant filter
Radiator Overflow Tank
  • Prevents air from entering the radiator as engine cools and reducing the efficiency of the cooling system

DO NOT use the following PARTS with the Negative Supercharging Cooling System
Radiators with 2 rows
Radiators with double flow (has baffle plates in tank)
Radiators with triple flow (has baffle plates in tank)
Radiators with solid fins
Radiators with tubes offset or staggered
Radiators with tubes smaller than 1/2"
Radiators with more or less than 10mm tube pitch
Radiators with less than 16 FPI (Fins Per sq Inch)
Thermostat (MUST be removed from engine)
Thermal fan clutch (has a temperature spring on front of clutch housing)
4 Blade Fans
Flex Fans
Electric Fans
Electric Water Pumps
High flow water pumps
Smaller diameter water pump pulleys than standard
Aluminium water restrictor plates

DO NOT use the following COOLANT with the Negative Supercharging Cooling System
NON-Glycol coolant inhibitor BELOW freezing only
Ethylene Glycol anti-freeze coolant ABOVE freezing only
Propylene Glycol anti-freeze coolant
ANY chemical liquid that replaces water as a coolant
ANY type of coolant additive that claims to reduce water temperature or prevent overheating
