Thermocharger

Thermostatically controlled air cleaner housing maintains hot air induction temperature to maximise power during all weather conditions

Thermocharger is a thermostatically controlled air cleaner housing that maintains a hot air induction temperature. It is NOT a supercharging device. The job of the Thermocharger is to keep the air induction temperature above 40°C (104°F) during all weather conditions. This is required for Negative Pressure Supercharging to work effectively during cold and hot weather. However, the Negative Supercharging Cooling System must be used with the Thermocharger to keep the water temperature of the engine below 50°C (122°F) with hot air induction.

The Thermocharger fits single 4BBL Carter, Edelbrock or Holley carburetors and EFI throttle bodies with a 5 1/8" (130mm) diameter inlet. The base of the Thermocharger also sits 1.2" (30mm) below the carburetor to clear the hood (bonnet) of smaller vehicles. For more details see Thermocharger Specs.

Thermocharger is a tuneable air cleaner housing that may be set at 1 temperature all year round or different temperatures to maximise power during different weather conditions

OPTION 1: Set Thermocharger at 45°C (113°F) all year round if the weather temperature in your region varies between 0 ~ 40°C (32 ~ 104°F)

OPTION 2: Set Thermocharger at 75°C (167°F) all year round if the weather temperature in your region varies between -20 ~ 20°C (-4 ~ 68°F) and does NOT exceed 20°C (68°F)

OPTION 3: Set Thermocharger to the optimum temperature to maximise power during different weather conditions

OPTION 1: Set Thermocharger at 45°C (113°F) all year round if the weather temperature in your region varies between 0 ~ 40°C (32 ~ 104°F)
To optimise the power produced by Negative Pressure Supercharging all year round during cold to hot weather from 0 ~ 40°C (32 ~ 104°F), set the Thermocharger to 45°C (113°F) and forget it. This is the optimum hot air induction temperature required by Negative Pressure Supercharging to work effectively during cold to hot weather and to keep the water temperature of the engine below the optimum 50°C (122°F) during hot weather.

However, if you want to produce more power and faster acceleration during colder weather below 18°C (65°F), then set the Thermocharger to 75°C (167°F). The colder weather will keep the water temperature of the engine below the optimum 50°C (122°F) with the hotter air induction temperature. But when the weather increases above 18°C (65°F), set the Thermocharger back to 45°C (113°F). If you forget to do this, the engine will remind you. The water temperature will gradually increase above the optimum 50°C (122°F) and the engine will become noticeably less responsive.

OPTION 2: Set Thermocharger at 75°C (167°F) all year round if the weather temperature in your region varies between -20 ~ 20°C (-4 ~ 68°F) and does NOT exceed 20°C (68°F)
To optimise the power produced by Negative Pressure Supercharging all year round during cold weather below 18°C (65°F), set the Thermocharger to 75°C (167°F) and forget it. This is the optimum hot air induction temperature required by Negative Pressure Supercharging to work effectively during cold weather and to keep the water temperature of the engine below the optimum 50°C (122°F).

However, if you want to produce more power and faster acceleration during colder weather below 8°C (46°F), then set the Thermocharger to 105°C (221°F). The colder weather will keep the water temperature of the engine below the optimum 50°C (122°F) with the hotter air induction temperature. But when the weather increases above 8°C (46°F), set the Thermocharger back to 75°C (167°F). If you forget to do this, the engine will remind you. The water temperature will gradually increase above the optimum 50°C (122°F) and the engine will become noticeably less responsive.

OPTION 3: Set Thermocharger to the optimum temperature to maximise power during different weather conditions
To maximise the power produced by Negative Pressure Supercharging during different weather conditions and to keep the water temperature of the engine below the optimum 50°C (122°F), set the Thermocharger to the optimum hot air induction temperature recommended on the Thermocharger Air Induction Temperature label.

With the Thermocharger set at 45°C (113°F), Negative Pressure Supercharging produces the same power during cold to hot weather. This is the optimum hot air induction temperature required by Negative Pressure Supercharging to work effectively during cold to hot weather and to keep the water temperature of the engine below the optimum 50°C (122°F) during hot weather.

However, by setting the Thermocharger to 75°C (167°F) during cold weather below 18°C (65°F), it produces more power and faster acceleration. The colder weather will keep the water temperature of the engine below the optimum 50°C (122°F) with the hotter air induction temperature.

When the weather increases above 18°C (65°F) set the Thermocharger to a lower temperature of 55°C (131°F) or 45°C (113°F) when the weather increases above 28°C (83°F). This will maximise power and keep the water temperature of the engine below the optimum 50°C (122°F). If you forget to set the Thermocharger to a lower temperature as the weather temperature increases, the engine will remind you. The water temperature will gradually increase above the optimum 50°C (122°F) and the engine will become noticeably less responsive.
