Negative Supercharging Kits and Impulse Crate Engines MUST use a High Energy Ignition (HEI) system

The larger volume of air pulled into the cylinder by Negative Pressure Supercharging produces a much denser charge. This requires a HEI system to fire the spark gap. Therefore, aftermarket HEI systems with 1 coil per engine or vehicle manufacturers HEI systems with 1 coil per cylinder must be used with the Negative Supercharging Kits and Impulse Crate Engines. DO NOT use a ballast resistor with these HEI systems.

However, these HEI systems only slightly improve power by 1-2% (5-8hp) and fuel economy by 2-5% (0.5-1mpg) in a 400hp engine. Although they do an excellent job of firing the spark gap with the denser charge, these HEI systems do not generate the higher spark energy that is needed to produce a greater increase in power with the ultra fast burn produced by Negative Pressure Supercharging and hot air induction. Also, vehicle manufacturers HEI systems with 1 coil per cylinder are 4 times more expensive but only slightly produce more power than aftermarket HEI systems with 1 coil per engine.
